Based on the design of the original SOG-TAC automatic, the TAC XR introduced the ambidextrous XR Lock to this iconic platform. SOG is back again with the next evolution in the TAC AU automatic folder. It retains the XR lock with the addition of a double-action safety that allows for secure carry with fast deployment. A robust construction makes this a popular choice with military, law enforcement and civilian users alike. This Compact CA Special Tanto version comes with a California-legal, sub-2 inch black titanium nitride coated D2 tool steel blade and matching 6061-T6 aluminum handle scales.

Blade: With a high saber grind, top swedge and Tanto point the sub-2 inch plain edge D2 blade offers solid piercing and slicing performance with added durability. Access fast automatic deployment via the ambidextrous AU-XR Lock mechanism. Jimping on the spine pairs with an integral index guard for added security while the black TiNi coating is discreetly non-reflective and enhances corrosion resistance.

Handle: Full sized, contoured and textured 6061-T6 aluminum handle scales are lightweight, durable and weather resistant. The compact size and weight are ideal for EDC with a full grip. A proud polymer back spacer is jimped for traction and creates a more contoured feel for added comfort. The AU-XR lock can withstand up to 1500 pounds of force, can be operated with either hand and features an integral, double-action safety: center position is ready to deploy, forward position is safety engaged. Pull past the safety detent, and you can deploy from either position. A generous hole at the pommel allows for lanyard attachment.

D2 Tool Steel: D2 is a cold work tool steel that has been used as a die cutting steel since WW II. With a high chromium content for a tool steel (10-13%) D2 offers greater corrosion resistance than most high carbon steels. With a good combination of toughness, corrosion resistance and wear resistance D2 is a well-balanced, all around knife steel.
